5th Grade & Upper Grade Science Teacher

“I’m hoping to inspire my 5th graders to be disciples to friends and others in their lives and to be stewards of the Earth that God has given us to tend.  I hope to embody my favorite verse for them: 'And what does the Lord require of you?  To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.’ Micah 6:8”

Amy Moeller was not born and raised a Lutheran, but she feels she is truly an example of a child's evangelism. She was invited to Sunday School by a friend in second grade, and that was the beginning of feeling like she was a part of the church body and family. She attended midweek classes, confirmation, and youth group activities because a church chose to reach out to a neighborhood child.

Now, many years later, she sees serving in a Lutheran School as a privilege, and she believes that Lutheran schools are a vital ministry that serves as a connection to the church that a child will remember in later years. She first attended a Lutheran school in college, so she is able to truly appreciate the uniqueness of a Lutheran school's ministry. She prioritizes sharing her faith not only during Religion class but in all subject areas.

Before coming to St. John’s, she taught at 4 other Lutheran schools since graduating in 1978 and is very excited to be joining our school’s ministry here. She is especially passionate about handbells and led a high school handbell group at Trinity Lutheran for 25 years on summer music mission trips. Amy looks forward to being able to use that passion here at St. John’s.

Mrs. Moeller received her BA from Concordia Teachers College in River Forest in 1978 and her MA from Concordia University Chicago in 1991. She’s been honored to receive the 2001 NID Middle School Teacher of the Year Award and the 2011 Lutheran Education Association Distinguished Lutheran Elementary Teacher Award. She has also been blessed to lead two classes to the final round of the Museum of Science and Industry I-Design Competition and was thrilled to see her sixth graders win the elementary division. Mrs. Moeller will use her many teaching skills to work with her fifth graders and to teach 5th through 8th grade science.
